01/26/09: Lego's

Bible History: Jesus Cleanses the Temple

Biography/American History:
1 chapter from The Alexander Hamilton You Never Knew by James Lincoln Collier and The Bald Eagle Symbols of Freedom by Tristan Binns
Fables: The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac by Dawn Casey
Memorization: First 15 states of the United States
World History: Knights and Castles by Fiona MacDonald
Geography: Greater and Lesser Antilles
Science: The Universe (Smithsonian) by Seymour Simon
Science Experiment: Rubber Eggs
PE: Made snow forts for one hour and they each played Wii Sports for 30 min.
Reading: We take turns reading all of the above material everyday.
Science/Pet Care: Jared and Olivia each have a hamster that they are responsible for. They also take turns caring for our dog, cat and sea monkeys.

Olivia
Religion: Read one chapter in the Book of Mormon.
Science: Read through a science experiment book for an hour.
Math: Lesson 88
Geography Game: Played Snapshots Across America with Caleb.
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Language Arts: Prepositional phrases
Writing: Wrote in her journal
Creative Writing: Wrote her comments from The Day on the Hill to be turned in.
Research Life Skills: Read in various cookbooks for over 30 min.
Vocabulary: Peterson's Word of the Day- DILATE.
Typing: She's typing a biography up of her great grandma.
Mentoring: She decided she was going to mentor Caleb through various school items today.

Jared
Religion: Read a chapter in The Old Testament Reader
Music: Had a piano lesson.
Math: Lesson 79
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Handwriting: Cursive words, lesson from his Reason for Writing books.
Free Reading: Read 3 chapters in Eragon.
Creative Play: LOTS of Lego's today. He made his own Star War's ship from scratch. He didn't even look at the paper blueprints.
Science: Watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy video: Earth's Crust
Biography: Listened to several Power Tale biographies including Francis Scott Key.

Luke
Music: Practiced his piano lesson.
World History: Listened to Story of the World for 30 min.
Math: 1 Saxon Math 2 lesson.
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Phonics/Handwriting: 5 pages of Explode the Code
Free Reading: Read for over 30 min in a chapter book.
Creative Play: LOTS of Lego's today.

Caleb
Geography Game: Played Snapshots across America with Olivia.
Math: 1 1/2 workbook pages
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Phonics/Handwriting: 2 Explode the Code pages
Creative Play: Played Rescue Hero's today and he got out the tool box and opened up a bunch of them. (?-Apparently it had to be done).

Family (in the evening):
Family Home Evening: Extended Family Relationships.
We visited a couple of families and gave cookies to another.

To Show Parent Core/Love of Learner/Scholar here are some things we modeled to the children today...
Deanna: Scriptures, journal, Ensign article, spell drill, word of the day, Goodreads reviews, finished our online adoption profile, read 1/2 chapter of The Richest Man in the World with Alex, read for a little while in Prelude to Glory and did a chapter and assignment for my BYU Geography class.
Alex: Scriptures, word of the day, read a chapter in Leadership 101 by Maxwell, went to work and listened to The Iliad by Homer.
