Scouting

Scouting has become a big part of our family for the last year. Because of Alex's calling in the Bishopric he is the Unit Commissioner over the scouts in our ward. I'm the primary counselor over scouts also. Because I'm a little hyperactive in my callings I'm VERY involved in the cub scouts. I hang out to help the den leaders every week and I attend all their pack planning meetings. I'm pretty much the cub scout committee because we don't have one.

Any way that just means we are thinking scouts all the time. Jared has really enjoyed his leaders this year and has worked hard on scouting requirements. Tonight he earned the Webelos badge. He's only been a Webelo for 3 months. He loves working on the requirements and is working hard on the Arrow of Light now has well. He has to be a Webelo for 6 months before he can get that.

We are really blessed to have some fabulous older men as the boys' den leaders. In Luke and Jared's den their den leader ages are 82, 60, 75 and 55 ish. They are a great example of enduring to the end! They have been great mentors of good character to our boys. We love them!!!!!

The power of great men in the lives of boys today can not be underestimated or ignored. Our boys (and society) need strong men to reinforce in them true principles. We need to honor great men who act like great men.

Septermber 17, 2009 (Thursday)

Today was crazy! We had our scholar class which has been changed to Thursdays now. Scouts and Activity Days have also been changed to Thursdays. I am over all the scouts because I'm in the Primary Presidency and I'm the Activity Days leader. I'm not sure how all of that happened. We are still having bumpy start getting scouts going this year so it's been a fiasco. I've been subbing in there on weeks when I'm not working with the girls. We also had a meeting after wards to plan pack meeting.

We did not have Mom School today. We did buy a new saddle today so we are making progress on our "let's own 82 acres and be ranchers plan." One thing at a time right?

September 9, 2009 (Wednesday): It's writing time

I can't even begin to tell you how painfully screwed up our day was. Later on I realized half the things we forgot. I don't think I was functioning on a full brain level today. That's okay though! Luke and Olivia started a ten-week writing course that's 2 1/2 hours long. We thought it was in the afternoon, but found out it was this morning. She has an oral assignment for next week. She spent a lot of time reading today and she was taking notes. Olivia also had a current dictionary out and she had the hefty 1828 dictionary out. She's such a good girl. I'm proud of her for making big kid choices, but it's kind of sad. My kids are growing up!

12/29/08: #6 The Sixth Month Purge

Today we put up our Christmas decorations. Ahhh! I love having my house put together. When things are not in their regular place it drives me nuts! Alex is home again all this week and so he obliged me with the decorations.

We also did "The Sixth Month Purge" which just means we went through things and took out of the house the things we didn't need anymore. Ahhhh again! The kids ended up switching their rooms around again so that necessitated a through gutting.

Olivia worked on her Adobe Photo Shop Elements or whatever it's called. She also had a mentor lesson about it from my sister. She was very happy.

We had a family council this morning and went over some general family things. (like switching rooms) We also voted to implement the "Bean Counter Game." We'll see how that goes. I'll do a separate post on that in a couple of days.

We went "to town" today to play at the McDonald's playground for our cousins birthday. Tonight half the kids are at their cousins house spending the night and the other half are here with some cousins. We have cake and ice cream in a bit also for the birthday cousin.

We accomplished a lot today. They worked hard and played hard. I'm smiling because my house is put back together.

Daily Schedule for 9/18/08

Today I took a teacher in service day! I went to the temple. How much more inspired can I be then going there! Olivia and Jared went to Kristen's and had their first fall horse lessons. Olivia read some, but she always reads. She's like me. This afternoon after "school" we are having a play date for them with some kids. It was nice not doing anything. We go through so much material during the day with no breaks. It seems like we always end up with one day a week that we don't do much school. Maybe all the no recesses and lunch breaks add up to a day off! : )
