01/20/09: Hello Mr. President

I didn't realize until this afternoon that we had missed the changing of power. So we just talked about. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that we never have the T.V. on so we aren't in the know.
Today, Caleb snuck off during Mom School and took a picture of us in action. The picture is crooked, but you can see what it's like. The kids drag in toys, Lego's and whatever else they want for our marathon reading sessions. The mess drives me nuts, but after mom school we put all the toys away-back in their rooms anyway-and everything gets put back together.

Preach My Gospel, Chapters 9 and 10. We've finished what we are going to do in this book for now. We are going to start reading the lessons in the book Gospel Principles.
Bible History: Raising of Lazarus

Biography/American History: Read two chapters and finished John Adams by Ann Gaines
Literature: Read 12 poems and finished A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson
World History Literature: In the book Wizards: Stories of Mischief, Magic and Mayhem we read the section that had a translation of Beowulf. The translation was by Seamus Heaney.
World History: We read the book The Apple and the Arrow by Mary and Conrad Buff. This is the story of the Independence of the country of Switzerland in 1291.
Memorization: Books of the Old and New Testament and Books of the Book of Mormon, Latter-day Prophets, First 11 states of the USA and the Presidents of the USA.
Geography: Switzerland
Science: Fungi and lichens from The Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia
Game: Apples to Apples, Jr. and Phase 10
Reading: We take turns reading all of the above material everyday.
Science/Pet Care: Jared and Olivia each have a hamster that they are responsible for. They also take turns caring for our dog, cat and sea monkeys.

Family History: Read another biography of Olive Ward
Music: Had her voice lesson.
Math: Lesson 86
Language Arts: Prepositional Phrases
Free Reading: Read Jane Eyre for 15 min
Government Reading: Read a chapter from a high school government book about the beginnings of government.
Life Skills: Babysat a one year old for a half and hour while I gave a piano lesson. I was in the same room with her.

Religion: Read his Old Testament Reader
Music: Practiced his piano lesson.
Math: Lesson 77
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Handwriting: Did a lesson in his cursive writing book.
Free Reading: Read 3 chapters in Eragon.
PE: Ran/walked 1 mile on the treadmill and 30 min of Wii sports.
Science: Watched a dinosaur science video.
Creative Play: Played with Lego's for an hour.
Biography: Listened to Power Tales biographies of Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Edison.

Luke
Science: Watched a dinosaur science video.
Math: 1 Saxon Math 2 lesson.
Phonics/Handwriting: 5 pages of Explode the Code
Creative Play: Played with Lego's for 3 hours. He put together a really nice Star Wars ship.
Biography: Listened to Power Tales biographies of Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Edison.

Science: Watched a dinosaur science video.
Math: 2 math workbook pages
Phonics/Handwriting: 1 page from Explode the Code
PE: 30 min of Wii sports

To Show Parent Core/Love of Learner/Scholar here are some things we modeled to the children today...
Deanna: Scriptures, journal, piano, read A Tale of Two Cities for two hours, wrote some book reviews on Goodreads, taught a piano lesson and read a chapter with Alex from The Richest Man Who Ever Lived. I also finished our adoption website page for the LDS church for their new It's About Love website being launched on the 27th.
Alex: Scriptures, did his temple ordinance worker shift-he was called to be a trainer today, went to work, and listened to the Iliad.
