01/30/09: Olivia is sick!

Family History: Elizabeth Matthews Campbell biography by her granddaughter
World History: Pyramids and Mummies by Seymour Simon
Science: Biomes and Habitats from The Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia and Destination: Space by Seymour Simon
Science/Pet Care: Jared and Olivia each have a hamster that they are responsible for. They also take turns caring for our dog, cat and sea monkeys.
Science video: Watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy video about Pressure (in the afternoon).

Olivia
Olivia was sick today. She participated in Mom School then promptly took a 3 hour nap. She aroused to do some Math. Then she snuggled in bed for a couple of Little House on the Prairie episodes. She's feeling a little better now though.

Religion: 1 chapter of The Book of Mormon
Math: Lesson 92
Vocabulary: Peterson's Word of the Day-FAWN
Writing: She wrote a blog post.
Art: Made a digital scrapbook page.
Free Reading: Read Jane Eyre for 1 hour.

Jared
Religion: One chapter from the Old Testament Reader
Music: Practiced his piano lesson.
Math: Lesson 82
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Handwriting: Cursive lesson assignment
Free Reading: Read 3 chapters of Eragon.
Creative Play: Lot's of Star Wars play.
Book on Tape: Listened to the Radio broadcast of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
PE: Shoveled snow

Luke
Music: Practiced his piano lesson.
Math: 1 Math lesson from Saxon 2
Reading: Read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for 1 hour.
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Phonics/Handwriting: 5 pages of Explode the Code
Creative Writing/Typing: He's back to a story again. This time it's called "Civil War of 1820." Creative Play: Lot's of Lego's and Star Wars play.
PE: Shoveled Snow

Caleb
Math: 1 math workbook page
Spelling: Caleb decided to do over 10 spell drills today.
Handwriting: Several mazes.
Reading: Read 2 readers to me.
Creative Writing: He was "working" on a story today also while Luke was.
PE: Jump roping

As a family in the Evening:
We played Jared's game he made at scouts. It's actually pretty fun!!

To Show Parent Core/Love of Learner/Scholar here are some things we modeled to the children today...
Deanna: Word of the day, read The Illiad for 45 min. and I spent over 6 hours ordering curriculum through IDEA. When the state is giving you a couple thousand dollars for curriculum you just suck up the very slow online ordering system they have!
Alex: Scriptures, word of the day, listened to three hours of The Iliad by Homer, went to Boise to work and won't be home until tomorrow night. (Tomorrow he is attending the Idaho State Republican Convention).

Isn't it hard when the oldest is sick? It reminds you of how much you count on them...doesn't it?

WOW - your state GIVES you money for homeschooling curriculum? Wouldn't that be nice.
