She attended a her first scholar school class- "Key of Liberty" in town. She loved it! She wasn't ready to start and the beginning of the school year but she is ready now. Every Friday she will meet with about 18 other kids and she learns about Early American History for several hours. There are lectures, book discussions, oral reports, written reports and many other assignments given. She really enjoyed it. After class they had a guest lecture come in and talk about several things. They then went as a class to a students class and watched a movie about the militia and minute men in the Revolutionary War. She is excited to go back next week.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

This morning we continued to spend a couple of hours working on putting the house back together. We now only have dining room things and food storage in our living room.

The kids did all their book work.

Health: This afternoon we headed to town again for our 8th and final dentist appointment in 6 weeks. Jared ended up eating off half his lip because it was numb. It was pretty ugly. We'd gone to the library and when I'd gathered my little flock together he shows up with blood all over his face. He of course had no idea.

Books: We went to the library and stayed for a while.

Science: We watched a video at the Herret Center in town about hurricanes.

History: We learned about crude weapons of the North American continent at the Natural History Museum. We also listed to Story of the World vol. 2 for one hour on our way to the dentist. We learned about England.

Book on Tape: We started Eragon for the umpteenth time and listened to it all the way home for town and into the night. I just might have to reread the series now.

That's a basic run down. I'm anticipating that life will return to normal soon. But what is normal?

Monday, October 26, 2009

Today we sat on the couch with our knees to our chin and had Mom School. All of our family's possessions are in the living room and library room. But today the carpet layers came and we now have beautiful carpet and fresh paint in the bedrooms. It looks really good. Too good. Who wants to move now? : )

So for Mom School we did:
Pray/Pledge
Song: 3 primary songs
Bible: "Ruth" from The Old Testament Reader.

Literature: Read two chapters in The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis.
Science: We read about sharks and fish life from The Natural World Illustrated Science Encyclopedia by Usborne. Caleb loves this book.
Chores: House chores and animal care

The kids read quite a lot on their on. Olivia and Jared had piano lessons. We spent most of the late afternoon and evening putting our house back together.

For Family Home Evening we had a modified night with only testimonies and a lesson given by Alex.

How sweet it is to have most of the house put back together.

Friday, October 23, 2009

Today the kids enjoyed some time with Grandpa Sutter! They helped finish tearing off the roof. They helped with painting. Olivia and Jared also went golfing with both their grandpa's. Lot's going on. No place to eat or write. But life is good.

Our living room with stuff everywhere from the bedrooms.
Our master bathroom with the floor torn apart and tons of stuff on the counters from the master closet.

Olivia's own personal disaster.

Thursday, October 22, 2009

Today the kids just did all of their book work. Our scholar writing class was canceled and that was okay with us! We had activity days. We had a friend over. We had a pack meeting. Grandpa Sutter came to help us with all our home improvement projects.

Projects today included tearing off the shingles of the roof. Tearing out the flooring in a bathroom and a dining room. We also took apart several more rooms for painting tomorrow.

Life is full of chaos right now. But we are all still smiling-SORE- but smiling.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Today the kids were able to play at their cousins all day long. They had a great time. Alex was working in Boise all day. I drove home from Utah in the evening.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Today the kids did all their book work with Alex. After that they went to our land and worked hard for several hours. We are clearing a certain piece so we can tear out some concrete in the next couple of weeks.

The kids went to their cousins to spend the night and Alex headed off to Boise to spend the night at my sister's house. He has an early morning meeting on Wednesday.

I am enjoying my time with my mom here in Salt Lake City. She's such a trooper! I'm so proud of her. She always has such a good attitude. She had her bone marrow transplant last weekend and is doing well under the circumstances.

Monday, October 19, 2009

Today was a little busy.....

We started the day by tearing apart several bedrooms and a bathroom to get them ready for painting.

While we were doing this the kids were dutifully doing their school work. They all did their regular book work.

Then the carpet man came to measure our bedrooms to give us our official quote. We accepted the quote and gave him the 20% or whatever it was down.

Then I left for Utah. I'm here at the Huntsman's Cancer Center spending time with my heroine of a mother who is fighting Multiple Melanoma. I'll be here a couple of days.

After I left our painter friend showed up to start painting the bedrooms. She'll be in and out for most of the week. Olivia was her helper today. I'm not sure how much she actually helped her though.

After our friend came to paint Alex went in to "town" (45 min away) and bought the rest of our tile and roofing supplies. Jared and Caleb had a dentist appointment also.

They're home now getting ready for Family Home Evening. I'm not sure what they are doing for Family Home Evening....I'm here in a little apartment in SLC watching Dancing With the Stars with my mom. I've never seen Dancing With the Stars (or watched more than 5 min of TV in months) so this is a treat!

Friday, October 16, 2009

Today we had to go to town (45 min away) to go to the dentist. It was a long day and the kids did well despite the numerous fillings.

We listened to Story of the World vol. 2 all the way there and all way back. And all the way in between. My kids love that series. We had many lively discussions. Jared loves the story of Beowulf. We've read several children's versions and he's always excited to listen to the Story of the World version again and again.

We were also able to go to the library. I love the city library!

We went to the home improvement store and the carpet store. We purchased carpet, pain, tile and laminate. So many fun projects coming in the next two weeks. But the good news is that Grandpa Sutter is coming to town next weekend to help with the new roof and the flooring. (Did I mention we have to get a new roof?) We are all very excited!!!

The kids also each earned a free mini-pizza from Pizza Hut for their reading the past month. Pizza is yummy!

It was a fun, but very long day! (Did I mention that we also went grocery shopping to two stores and we went decoration shopping for the next Pack meeting?)

Alex took the day off along with us. We worked on our land. We put up pig paneling and cleared tons of Russian Olive Trees. Life is good.

We are getting ready for another great family home evening. Olivia has the lesson and it is on Pres. Uchtdorf's talk from conference. (I need to learn to spell his name).
