Today was crazy! We had our scholar class which has been changed to Thursdays now. Scouts and Activity Days have also been changed to Thursdays. I am over all the scouts because I'm in the Primary Presidency and I'm the Activity Days leader. I'm not sure how all of that happened. We are still having bumpy start getting scouts going this year so it's been a fiasco. I've been subbing in there on weeks when I'm not working with the girls. We also had a meeting after wards to plan pack meeting.
We did not have Mom School today. We did buy a new saddle today so we are making progress on our "let's own 82 acres and be ranchers plan." One thing at a time right?

Fairy Tales/Fables: We read the stories of Rumpelstiltskin and Rapunzel for What Every 1st Grader Needs to Know by ED Hirsch, Jr for the Core Knowledge series.
Read-a-loud: Read two chapters in Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo.
Science: Read a chapter in Science: A Closer Look by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill. The kids also watched several Brain Pop, Jr. videos on line about a variety of science topics.
PE/Science: We worked on our 80+ acres for several hours "clearing land." I feel like the Steeds sometimes. I've never moved so much brush, trees and limbs in my life as in the last couple of weeks. Today, since we were moving old fence posts, we saw over 20 very big man-eating Hobo spiders. We also saw lots of mice and lots of other creepy crawlies. It was very exciting for the kids and the dogs. (When we came home we looked up a lot of different spiders to try and identify some of the ones we saw). Caleb's highlight was that he was stung by two bees/wasps. He has a pobia about bee stings to begin with, so this was not a good moment for him.

Today we were in and out. We did all of our book work-math, phonics, grammar, handwriting, creative writing, spelling, reading, geography, music and our 30 min writing assignments from scholar school. We also watched Olivier Twist.
I had a Primary meeting and I left early to go to Time Out for Women in Boise. The kids spent a couple of hours at the office with dad. See you next week!

Deanna: Scriptures, journal, practiced the piano, did lots of family history and finished City of Bones.
Alex: Scriptures, word of the day, went to the temple, took a test for one of his licenses and went to work.

Read-a-loud: We read two chapters from Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo.
Social Studies: Read a chapter in Houghton Mifflin Social Studies: States and Regions. This textbook is painfully boring unlike our science book which we LOVE!
Science: Read a chapter in Science: A Closer Look by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill. It was about pollination.
Language Arts: Read a chapter in Simply Grammar by Karen Andreola.
Logic: Played with Lego's for an hour.
Social: Cub scouts and cousins over to play.
Chores
Olivia
Religion: Read a chapter in Genesis.
Geography: Did an Evan-Moor lesson.
Math: Did a Saxon 7/6 lesson.
Math Drill: Did an addition fact drill.
Language Arts: Did a Daily Grams lesson
Creative Writing: Did an Editor-in-Chief lesson. She also did her 30 min writing assignment from her scholar class. (She typed it up so she did typing also).
History/Research: She looked up Internet links from Usbornes Book of Knowledge.
Reading: Read for over an hour.
Music: Practiced her vocal solo for the recital.
Jared
Religion: Read in the Doctrine and Covenants Reader.
Music: Practiced his recital piece.
Geography: Did an Evan-Moor lesson.
Math: Did a Saxon 6/5 lesson.
Math Drill: Did an addition math fact drill.
Spelling: 1 spell drill
Phonics/Handwriting: 5 pages of Explode the Code
Creative Writing: Did a lesson in Let's Write.
Grammar: Did a Daily Grams lesson.
Reading: Read in Peter and the Star Catchers for at least 30 min.
Luke
Religion: Read in the Book of Mormon
Geography: Did an Evan-Moor lesson.
Math: Did a Saxon 3 lesson.
Phonics/Handwriting: 5 pages of Explode the Code
Grammar: Did a Daily Grams lesson.
Spelling: Did a spell drill.
Creative Writing: Did a writing lesson from Let's Write and he did he's 30 min writing assignment for his Scholar Writing class.
Cursive Writing: Practiced his cursive letters.
Reading: Read various things for over 30 min including a chapter in Prince Caspian
Caleb
Religion: Read a verse in the Book of Mormon to me.
Geography: Did a lesson from Evan-Moor.

Computer Phonics: Played Starfall for an hour on the computer.

September 9, 2009 (Wednesday): It's writing time
I can't even begin to tell you how painfully screwed up our day was. Later on I realized half the things we forgot. I don't think I was functioning on a full brain level today. That's okay though! Luke and Olivia started a ten-week writing course that's 2 1/2 hours long. We thought it was in the afternoon, but found out it was this morning. Jared went to Salt Lake with Alex to take Alex's sister to the MTC....

Science: Read Ants! They are hard workers! A Time For Kids book. We also played spin the bottle again with all of our science words. They really like this.
